What do you think of when you hear the words Heritage USA? Most of us who had a television set in the 1980’s conjure up an image of something like this:
So when the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported today that the old Dogpatch USA had been leased to a group called Heritage USA, the first thing we thought of was the fact that Jim Bakker might be moving a little further south than his current location west of Branson, Missouri.
But that isn’t the case.
The newspaper reports that the land the former amusement park sites on will be leased to another group out of Las Vegas, Nevada that shares the same name as the Christian themed park that stirred up so much controversy in South Carolina, and eventually played a big part in sending the former televangelist to prison.
The folks out of Las Vegas have an idea that looks more like this:
Now keep in mind, previous owners of Dogpatch made a quick escape and literally left it sitting there as it was for almost twenty-five years before anyone laid a finger on it. You could drive by the old hotel and still see beds made. Others have talked about bringing the old place back to life, but no one has ever made the investment or pulled the trigger.
The Facebook page for the new Heritage USA seems to indicate that the new ownership has some grand plans for the property which apparently include a complete renovation of the old hotel and RV park.
The Democrat-Gazette did not say when any projects were expected to be completed.
