A Sebastian County Detention Center deputy was arrested and subsequently fired on Wednesday for smuggling contraband into the facility.
Darryl Wingate, 29, was charged with Furnishing Prohibited Articles and Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine , both felonies.
On August 9, Sebastian County Adult Detention deputies received information that adetention deputy was smuggling contraband into the facility. The follow up investigation resulted in the arrest of Wingate of Fort Smith, who had been employed with SCADC for about three months.
He has immediately terminated at the time of his arrest.
Wingate was released on a $4,000 legally sufficient bond at 1:51 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
“This type of violation and unethical action is contrary to the high standards and creed of our department,” said Sheriff William Hollenbeck. “Our own employees discovered this and took immediate action and arrested Wingate.”
“We will not tolerate this type of behavior. This type of action tarnishes the outstanding work of the men and women in our law enforcement community,” said Hollenbeck. “This does not reflect the outstanding work of the dedicated men and women of our department.”
