WICHITA - Burgers and fries, anyone?

Kansas based Freddy’s Frozen Custard says they are headed to Fort Smith. The burger maker is currently constructing their newest restaurant in the former KFC location at 7719 East Rogers Avenue.

The company was founded by Bill and Randy Simon and partner Scott Redler with a single location in West Wichita in 2002. The Simons named the restaurant for their father, who was known to cook a thin patty burger recipe at family functions. Since then, the chain has grown to 280 locations in 31 states.

“Our accelerated development in the Southeast, from both existing and new franchisees, is a true testament to the strength of our brand and our unwavering commitment to our network of partners,” Randy Simon, president and CEO said in a statement. “With our restaurants in the region performing consistently well, we’re continuing to eye expansion opportunities and look forward to growing our footprint throughout the area.”

The location is expected to open in January.
