FORT SMITH, Ark. – Two UAFS baseball players have received Heartland Conference honors for their performances this past week during the Lions’ games against Southeastern Oklahoma State and Oklahoma Christian.
Senior center fielder Jace Pitchford was named Conference Hitter of the Week, and senior pitcher Javon Rigsby was named Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Pitchford, who’s from Poteau, Okla., batted 0.478 with 11 hits, including two doubles and two home runs and five RBIs. He compiled an 0.826 slugging percentage, a 0.500 on-base percentage and was perfect (1 for 1) in stolen bases.
Rigsby, who’s from Texarkana, Texas, improved to 2-0, tossing a complete-game (nine innings), three-hit shutout against Oklahoma Christian in a 7-0 win in the series finale. He allowed only one walk and struck out nine. Oklahoma Christian batted only 0.097 against him.
The duo helped the Lions compile a 4-1 record over a five-game stretch that included wins against Southeastern Oklahoma State (13-5) and Oklahoma Christian (16-11, 7-6, 7-0) and loss to Oklahoma Christian (5-3).
