FORT SMITH - The National Weather Service says we’ll see the likelihood of more flooding as rains continue to soak the River Valley heading into the weekend. However, warm and dry conditions are expected for much of the area as we approach next week.

“An active pattern will remain across the area with additional rounds of shower and thunderstorm activity possible. This will result in more potential flooding and flash flooding into the early part of the weekend, with the highest amounts expected across southeast Oklahoma into northwest Arkansas.” the Tulsa Forecast Office said on Thursday morning. “Conditions may also favor strong thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon and evening. Warm and dry weather will prevail from late in the weekend into early next week.”

Despite the promise of warmer conditions, some parts of the region to our north and west are likely to see some winter weather persist.

“Patchy freezing drizzle or very light freezing rain will continue across much of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas this morning.” Meterologists said. “Temperatures will gradually warm above freezing during the morning, first across southeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas, then finally across northeast Oklahoma by Noon. Additional accumulations of ice will be light, but may still be enough to cause some travel impacts this morning.”

The forecasters say isolated thunderstorms will be possible this evening and overnight across far southeast Oklahoma through western Arkansas but no severe weather is expected.
