TULSA - The National Weather Service says much of the Arkansas River Valley could be in for some severe weather on Saturday as changing weather conditions will usher in strong thunderstorms.

“Greater chances for storms and additional heavy rainfall potential will be during the day Saturday as the main upper system and cold front move through the area.” the Forecast Office said Friday morning. “This will result in a slight increase in severe potential, mainly for southeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas where large hail will be the primary threat. Rain and storms are expected to be east of the area by late Saturday afternoon.”

In addition to the potential for thunderstorms, the area is under a Flash Flood Watch. Rains are expected to continue today.

“Shower and thunderstorms will move back north into southeast Oklahoma and west central Arkansas this morning, and this activity will increase in areal coverage across the rest of the area during the afternoon.” Meteorologists stated. “Additional heavy rainfall is likely at times today, especially southeast Oklahoma and west central Arkansas where a flood watch remains in effect through Saturday afternoon. Another round of showers and storms will develop late tonight in association with the main upper system. One or two strong to severe storms will be possible after midnight across far southeast Oklahoma, and will be capable of producing large hail.”
