BOONEVILLE - The top officer of the Booneville Police Department says that the juveniles who were filmed fighting two weeks ago had worked out their differences long before video of the altercation was posted on social media Tuesday.
Police Chief Al Brown told the Booneville Democrat on Wednesday that the two were related, and that the altercation had stemmed from an interaction between the pair in an online chat room. Although police had only been made aware of the fight on Tuesday, the two involved had reportedly worked out their differences immediately after the incident to the satisfaction of their parents. The report also indicated that the parents did not wish to press charges in the matter.
Brown also told the newspaper that the smaller boy who appeared to be the victim in the case was not mentally challenged, as was first alleged in the original Facebook post.
Barbi Adair, the parent of another Booneville student posted the video, and told police that the information regarding the younger boy had been given to her by her son. The post has since been removed.
According to the article, the case has now been referred to the Prosecuting Attorney’s office, who will make the ultimate decision on whether to file charges in the case.
