FORT SMITH - The Fort Smith Police Department is set to unveil the new motorcycles that will be part of its’ patrol unit in the coming weeks.
The motor unit consists of three Officers who were selected from the ranks of the Patrol Division. Those Officers recently completed a Police Motorcycle Training Course presented by Northwestern University and Harley Davidson.
The Police Department was authorized to buy three motorcycles. After exhaustive research the Harley Davidson Electra Glide was selected. The primary duties of the motorcycle unit will be traffic enforcement, motor vehicle accident investigations and other special assignments as determined by the Chief of Police.
The following Officers were selected and have completed 80 hours of training which included but was not limited to Machine nomenclature, Slow speed maneuvering, Control, Braking, Curve Negotiation, Motorcycle maintenance, Defensive driving
techniques and Law enforcement techniques.
Officer Brandon Djordjevic, Officer Robert Moudy and Corporal Kyle Story have been selected as the newest motorcycle Officers for the Fort Smith Police Department. These Officers will make up a unit that has not been in service for the Department since 2001.
The Fort Smith Police Department Motor Unit will be active on Monday, January 15, 2018. The Department will unveil the motorcycles during a ceremony this weekend at Central Mall.
