Verda Maxine Fleming, 87, of Fort Smith, passed away April 17, 2017, in Charleston, surrounded by family.

She was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Fort Smith to Loyd Kye and Vera Elizabeth Tapley Carter.

She was a homemaker and member of Forty Three Assembly of God Church in Van Buren. She was a talented quilter, artist, and cake decorator.

She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Kye Fleming of Nashville, Tenn.; and two brothers, Andy Kye Carter of Roland, Okla., and Joe Britt Carter of Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Fleming; two sisters, Helen Geneva Shelton and Hazel Marie Carter; and two brothers, Cody Calvin Carter and Harold Loyd Carter.

Graveside service will be Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the U.S. National Cemetery. Services and cremation are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
