ALEXANDRIA, VA - A governmental relations employee of Springdale based Tyson Foods was among those wounded at a baseball practice Wednesday morning. In addition to Congressman Steve Scalise of Louisiana and three others, Matt Mika was among those shot as House Republicans prepared for an upcoming charity baseball game.
“We have confirmed that Matt Mika, director-government relations for our Washington, D.C. office, is among those who was shot this morning in Alexandria,” said Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson in a prepared statement. “He has been taken to a local hospital and we’re awaiting word on his condition. Matt has worked for Tyson Foods for more than six years and we’re deeply concerned about him and his family.”
According to Politico.Com, Mika was previously a lobbyist for the American Meat Institute, according to disclosure records. He has also worked in the offices of Rep. Tim Walberg and former Rep. Dave Camp, both Michigan Republicans, according to his LinkedIn profile.
