Sebastian County Sheriff warns of potential scam in area

According to information from Capt. Phillip Pevehouse, the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office has received a report from a citizen in which a caller identified himself as “Mike Davenport.”

This subject told the person called they had signed a subpoena in early August and they failed to appear in September for federal jury duty.

Thus, the caller told the citizen, two warrants had been issued for their arrest for Contempt of Court and Failure to Appear. The caller also gave the citizen numbers for said warrants.

The caller told the citizen the Sheriff’s Office would normally send someone to arrest them, but since they considered the citizen an “upstanding citizen” they could work something out.

Two cash amounts were given to the citizen and the caller began to give instructions on payment when the citizen terminated the call and called SCSO.

Sheriff Hollenbeck is warning everyone this call is a scam.

No one from SCSO is calling citizens to let them know they have warrants for their arrest. Nor is any deputy making cash payment arrangements over the phone.

No one by the name of “Mike Davenport” is employed by SCSO.

All deputies conducting official business carry not only a badge, but department issued credential as well.

A report has been filed with SCSO and follow up investigation is taking place.
