The arrest of two juvenile suspects in the early morning hours of Thursday may have averted a mini-crime wave of breaking and entering for the Fort Smith police.

On Thursday at approximately 3:26 a.m., the police responded to the 4100 block of North 54th Street regarding two men attempting to break into cars.

Several officers responded to the area, and the two men were seen attempting to gain entry to a vehicle on Spradling Court.

Upon seeing police, the two men ran on foot. A perimeter was set and the two were located hiding behind a vehicle in the 5400 block of Virginia Avenue.

One suspect, a 15-year-old male, immediately gave up, but the second suspect took off running again.

The second suspect, a 15-year-old male was ultimately apprehended in an apartment complex located in the 5200 block of Johnson Street.

Both were placed under arrest for curfew violation, fleeing apprehension, and one count of breaking or entering.

Members of the criminal investigations unit have conducted interviews with the two juveniles, who admitted to entering approximately twenty-eight vehicles during the night.

Police are still attempting to locate each victim and the investigation is ongoing.
