OG&E customers who are part of the company’s SmartHours program and who suffered metaphoric heatstroke over the size of their June and July bills may be in for a little relief.
OG&E announced on Wednesday that an error in the way some days in both months were designated resulted in bills higher than they should have been.
The company was hit with a shocking number of complaints about higher than expected and usual electric bills during the months of June and July.
OG&E admitted on Wednesday that a technical error that affected SmartHours customers was the cause of the astronomical bills, which tripled in some cases from a year ago.
The utility compnay said nine days in the months of June and July that should have been designated as “Tier 3” were billed at a higher Tier 4 rate.
The company said they are currently working with the staff of the Arkansas Public Service Commission in an effort to formulate a plan to credit affected customer accounts and they will issue a credit starting August 21 reflecting the difference between the higher Tier 4 rate and the lower Tier 3 rate.
The company said that affected customers will be mailed a letter that will provide more information about the amount of refunds.
