Nell Gean, 92, of Sallisaw, Okla., passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017, in Sallisaw.
She was born Jan. 31, 1925 in Fort Smith, Ark., the daughter of Omer H. Smith and Elsie B. Robinson Smith.
She was married to Alton Gean, Jr., on Dec. 19, 1948, in Sallisaw, Okla. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 2007, in Fayetteville. Nell was a 1942 graduate of Sallisaw High School.
She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1948 and then attended Northeastern State University where she received her Master in Education and was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She was an elementary teacher at Sallisaw Public Schools for 35 years.
Survivors are one son and daughter in law, David and Sherry Gean of Sallisaw, Okla.; and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral service is Monday, April 24, 2017, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sallisaw, Okla. Burial will be at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
Viewing will be Saturday 2-8 p.m. and Sunday 2-8 p.m. at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw. The family will greet Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers are Rick Agent, A.O. Campbell, Trad Lattimore, Shannon Vann, Jack Wright and Carl Moss. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
