FORT SMITH – UAFS shot a sizzling 58 percent from the field against Henderson State on Tuesday night as the Lady Lions rolled to a convincing 76-60 nonconference win at Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
It was the first of two games this week for the Lady Lions (6-4), who will play No. 25 Central Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. in Edmond, Okla.
The Lady Lions made 32 of 55 shots from the field – they were 8-of-23 shooting from the free-throw line – but made just 4 of 7 shots from the free-throw line. Three players scored in double-figures for the Lady Lions – junior guard Lundon Williams had 17 points, senior guard Olivia Hanson had 15 and sophomore forward Tamera Gulley had 10.
UAFS out-rebounded Henderson State by 14 rebounds (38-24) and collected 10 offensive rebounds that led to 11 second-chance points. Senior forward Tayla Taylor and sophomore guard Alexsis Brown each had nine rebounds.
The Lady Lions forced 23 turnovers that they turned into 27 points. Brown, Williams and junior guard Mariah Green each had three steals piece.
Henderson State (4-4) shot only 38 percent from the field (21 of 55) – it was 8-of-19 shooting from 3-point range – and shot only 59 percent from the free-throw line (10 of 17). Senior guard Haleigh Henson led the Reddies with 17 points, while sophomore guard Pink Jones had 13 points and a team-high six rebounds.
The Reddies did force 27 Lady Lions’ turnovers but only converted the miscues into 14 points.
