The father of the 2-year-old boy who died after suspected abuse earlier this week in a Fort Smith home has been charged with first degree murder.
Officials upgraded the charge on Thursday against Terrell D. Powell, 36, who was originally arrested, on suspicion of 1st Degree Domestic Battery, in the death of his son.
On Saturday, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Fort Smith Police responded to Mercy Hospital regarding a 2-year-old male brought to the emergency room by ambulance with suspicious injuries.
Upon officers arrival, they discovered the child had what appeared to be minor visible injuries to the left side of the face. Officers were also informed the child was suffering from bleeding of the brain.
Powell remains jailed after a bond hearing on Thursday
