FORT SMITH - Investigators are looking into the cause of a train derailment south of downtown Fort Smith on Thursday evening.
A Kansas City Southern train derailed from the trackers near Wheeler Avenue and I Street. Local hazmat teams were dispatched after some vapors begin emitting from one of the two derailed tankers, but officials did not believe the public was in danger.
Officials say the cleanup is the responsibility of the party who owns the product on the train.
