The Yell County sheriff’s office says that a 2-year-old died Monday as the result of an accidental gun-shot wound suffered when the boy managed to take a gun from atop a cabinet and caused it to discharge.

Jacob Chronister was said to have been playing in a hallway when he went into a bedroom and took down the gun that was usually stored a top a cabinet in a bedroom.

Family members in another part of the house heard the weapon fire and found the boy with a single gunshot wound.

The incident occurred in a home on Bellleville Ridge Road just north of Danville. The child was dead on the scene when deputies arrived just before 7:30 p.m on Monday

The child’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner for autopsy and the investigation in ongoing.
