RUSSELLVILLE - Senator Greg Standridge, a Russellville area Republican and longtime insurance broker has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 50 years old.

Standridge had represented the Russellville area in the Arkansas Senate since 2015, when he ran in a special election to fill the vacancy left by Michael Lamoureux, who resigned to take the position of Chief of Staff for Governor Asa Hutchinson.

“I am saddened by the passing of Sen. Greg Standridge—a friend and dedicated public servant.” said Governor Asa Hutchinson. “I recently visited with Greg in his home, and even with his illness, he was a source of encouragement and strength. Greg served his community with distinction, and he loved his family most of all. Greg’s passing is a great loss for our state, and he will be missed.”

U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) shared similar feelings.

“I was very sad to hear of Senator Standridge’s passing. He was a good man, a proud Arkansan, who did so much for our state, serving as a constable, a volunteer fireman, and a member of the Pope County rescue team.” Cotton said. “His reputation preceded him in the insurance industry, and he brought that wealth of information with him to the Arkansas State Senate, where he quickly earned the respect of his colleagues and all who worked with him. It’s heartbreaking to see a man die so young, but what’s truly remarkable is how much he achieved in so short a time. He will be greatly missed. Anna and I will keep his wife, Karen, and their four children in our thoughts and prayers.”

Arrangements are pending under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service in Russellville.
