Sources close to the Fort Smith Police Department tells Inside Fort Smith that two additional complaints have been filed as follow-ups to the complaints filed last week against Fort Smith police chief Nathaniel Clark by computer forensic investigator Alvey Matlock.
Matlock filed a pair of complaints against Clark last week claiming “Failure of a commanding officer to meet his duties as a supervisor and attempt cover up misconduct by other Police Officers” in one and “Unprofessional conduct by Chief Clark towards employees and fellow officers has created a hostile work environment and high risk to the Fort Smith community and criminal investigations in multiple jurisdictions” in the other.
Inside Fort Smith has learned of two additional complaints filed in connection with those original complaints — one against Officer Wendell Sampson and a second filed against Fort Smith city administrator Carl Geffken — and has petitioned the city with FOIA requests for information on both complaints. It is unclear at this time who may have filed the additional complaints.
One of the two complaints was filed with the Office of Professional Standards and Internal Affairs division of the FSPD and information may not be available through FOIA at this time because of the pending investigation status.
The second complaint, against Geffken, was filed with mayor Sandy Sanders and the Fort Smith Board of Directors and reportedly addresses comments made by Geffken to a local television station following the initial complaints against Chief Clark by Matlock.
Inside Fort Smith will follow up on the additional complaints once information has been obtained from the FOIA request detailing the specifics of the complaints against Sampson and Geffkn.
