FORT SMITH- The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office warns that senior citizens need to be aware of a scam artist currently at work in Sebastian County.
Captain P Pevehouse says that the office received a fraud report in which a senior citizen was allegedly defrauded out of thousands of dollars on February 27th, 2019. The victim reportedly paid a man $4200.00 to repair her driveway, but he did not follow through with the work. The victim also claims the man allegedly asked for $1000.00 up front for to paint her house and returned and asked for $600.00 to cover paint.
Altogether $6000.00 has been paid to the scammer by the victim and the only work that has been done so far is a thin layer of crusher rock on the driveway, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriffs have identified the alleged scammer as 40 year old Brian Stanley. Stanley is described as having dark hair and dark eyes, standing 5’6″ and weighing over 200 lbs. The Sheriff’s Office reports they have been unable to locate the alleged scammer or his supposed company.
The Sebastian County Sheriffs Office is asking the public to help in locating Stanley and also being aware of Stanley continuing to run his scam. The Sheriff’s Office says citizens should check out contractors through references, the Better Business Bureau, and the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office.
If Stanley comes to your home and offers to do work, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 479-783-1051. Also if you have been a victim of Stanley in the past but have not reported it, SCSO would like to hear from you.
