Phillip Trammell

More information has been made available in the police-involved shooting of a Sequoyah County sex offender by a Sequoyah County Deputy on Friday.

Police have identified the 30-year-old Muldrow man named Phillip Joel Trammell as the subject who was shot by the deputy Friday when he pulled a knife and stabbed the officer.
The deputy was conducting a search of the residence on 10th Street when Trammell emerged from a pile of clothing and stabbed the deputy in the arm and upper chest. Trammell was then shot during the attack and died of his wounds.

Trammel was being sought on warrants for failure to pay child support, child, forgery and being non-compliant with sex offender registration laws surrounding his status as a sex offender stemming from his September 7, 2007 conviction on Rape by Instrumentation charges.

There has been no official announcement of the name of the deputy who was stabbed in the incident who was taken to a Fort Smith hospital in undisclosed condition for treatment of multiple stab wounds but is expected to make a full recovery.

Neighbors said there were “several shots fired” during the incident.
