The Sebastian County Sheriff Office is answering a call for help from FEMA and Houston area authorities for manpower and resources to help in search and rescue efforts. Sheriff Bill Hollenbeck is sending the SCSO Boat Team and several members of Sebastian County Search and Rescue for a 4-day deployment to the affected area, which has been ravaged by rains and storm damage associated with Hurricane Harvey.

“Hurricane Harvey has inundated the southeast area of Texas with damage and flooding. In particular, the Greater Houston area has been severely impacted by flooding of unprecedented proportions,” said Hollenbeck. “America’s fourth largest city has suffered greatly.”

In addition the SCSO will be a donation site for supplies to go to the southeast Texas area. Bottled water, cereal/protein bars, and other ready to eat foods will be accepted at the Sheriff’s Office. SCSO will coordinate with Red Cross and other aid groups to get the supplies to the citizens who have suffered devastation.

“Our hearts go out to the state of Texas and the citizens of the Houston area,” said Hollenbeck. “Just as other agencies came to our call for help we too will respond and assist the first responders who are overwhelmed with rescue efforts.”

Donation drop off hours will be from 8 am to 4 pm at the Fort Smith Sheriff’s Office located at 800 S. A Street in Fort Smith.
