A pair of Pope County men remain in the Pope County Detention Center on $200,000 and $50,000 bond respectively after being implicated in the theft of $273,000 in vehicles from Russellville auto dealers.

Trenton James Mosley, 24, of Atkins and Eugene Douglas Maddox, 42, of Belleville were scheduled to appear in a plea arraignment hearing set to be held on November 27 in Pope County Circuit Court.

Mosley appeared in the hearing accused of commercial burglary, theft of property, theft by receiving and breaking and entering and also faces the additional charge of failure to appear after failing to appear in court on October 16 on the pending felony charges of breaking and entering and commercial burglary.

Maddox appeared in the hearing accused of theft by receiving and theft of property.

Police say the duo broke into two Russellville dealerships over a four-day period and stole 14 vehicles valued at $273,000, $867 in cash, several tools missing from mechanic’s boxes, numerous keys to vehicles and service vehicles and numerous other personal items belonging to employees.

In addition, other items stolen from their work spaces. Numerous vehicles inside the service department belonging to customers had been broken into and personal items had been stolen as well.

Both men are on probation for previous felony convictions, according to court records. Mosley was tagged with the $200,000 bond while Maddox bail was set at $50,000.

The suspects were stopped while driving a gray Nissan, later found out to be stolen from one of the dealerships but investigators already knew Mosley was involved because he had taken a car from one dealership and later returned it to the lot.

Inside that vehicle they found scratched-off lottery tickets hey were able to trace to an area convenience store through cooperation with the Arkansas Lottery Commission. Surveillance cameras had recorded the transaction and of the detectives recognized Mosley from the resulting photographs.
