A month after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Payless Shoe Stores has announced they will close over 800 stores.
The latest round of cuts includes the location at 8319 Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith. The River Valley location was announced in a second round of closures submitted to a judge on Wednesday.
The Topeka, Kansas, based retailer says the stores that will close represent some 20% of all the company’s locations worldwide.

• Berryville Center, Berryville.
• Twin City Shopping Center, West Helena.
• Porters Common Shopping Center, Blytheville.
• 4316 Camp Robinson Road, North Little Rock.
• Hot Springs Mall, Hot Springs.
• Park Plaza Mall, Little Rock.
• Valley Park Center, Russellville.
• 2212 N. Washington St., Forrest City.
• 3115 Harrison, Batesville.
• Ozark Mall Outlet, Harrison.
• 10101 Mablevale Plaza Dr. 5 , Little Rock.
11400 W. Markham St., Little Rock.
202 Arkansas Blvd., Texarkana.
8319 Rogers Ave., Fort Smith.
Pinnacle Hills Promenade, 2203 Promenade Blvd., Rogers.
The chain joins other retailers such as K-Mart and Sears that have closed a number of corporately owned stores as a result of economic downturn.
