Francis Mallahan of Navajo, New Mexico, claimed $2 million on a Powerball ticket Friday he’d bought in Van Buren for the Saturday, July 15, Powerball drawing.

Mallahan had been in Van Buren for a funeral when he bought the winning ticket, but Friday was a happier day for him.

Mallahan, who claimed the prize with his brothers Ernie and Larry, lived in Little Rock previously when he was a client of World Services for the Blind in the city’s University district.

His winning Powerball ticket showed he’d picked five numbers correctly. Because he added the prize multiplier Power Play for an extra dollar, Mallahan doubled his prize.

This winning ticket was sold at Kum & Go 385 on 2720 Alma Highway in Van Buren.

The retailer will receive a one percent commission on the sale, totaling $20,000.

Since Powerball sales began in Arkansas in 2009, the national draw game has produced thousands of winners across the state – including other million dollar-plus winners in Uniontown, Conway, Hot Springs, Grubbs, De Queen, Little Rock, Searcy, Berryville and Jacksonville.
