On the road, again.
Three days after finishing runner-up in the Heartland Conference Tournament, UA-Fort Smith left Tuesday morning on its third trip to the Lone Star State in the past three weeks, but you won’t hear the Lions complaining about the miles they’re logging.
After all, they’re still playing.
UAFS will make its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament on Thursday when the No. 6 seed Lions play the No. 1 seed and host Angelo State Rams at noon in the first round of the South Central Region at 1st Community Credit Union Field in San Angelo, Texas.
The Lions (33-18) are one of three Heartland Conference teams in the six-team region, joining the No. 25-ranked and No. 4-seeded Lubbock Christian Chaps (37-14) and No. 5-seeded St. Edward’s Hilltoppers (33-18), which won the Heartland Conference Tournament. It’s the first time ever that three Heartland Conference teams have qualified for the national tournament.
Angelo State (41-13) and No. 3 seed West Texas A&M (35-16) represent the Lone Star Conference, while No. 2 seed Colorado Mesa (44-10) represents the Rocky Mountain Conference.
