TULSA - The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for parts of the region including Fort Smith for much of the weekend.
“Heat index values in excess of 105 degrees are expected Friday across much of the region and again Saturday afternoon over Southeast Oklahoma into West Central Arkansas…ahead of a cold front forecast to move through.” the Weather Service said in a statement. “A heat advisory will be in effect Friday afternoon for much of Eastern Oklahoma and West Central Arkansas. The weak cold front will bring some relief from the heat early next week, but dangerous heat is likely to return by the middle of next week. Thunderstorm chances look to return Monday night into Tuesday as a thunderstorm complex looks to develop and drop into the region.”
Forecasters say that if you are vulnerable to hot weather, now is the time to plan around it.
“With dangerous heat and humidity likely both Friday and Saturday, and again next week, consider taking any advance actions necessary to mitigate heat related illnesses.”
