Arkansas-Fort Smith women’s basketball coach Elena Lovato has announced the recent signing of former Greenwood standout Lundon Williams to an NCAA Division II letter-of-intent.
Williams, a 5-foot-6 guard, played two seasons at Harding before transferring to UAFS as student last year. She will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Lady Lions.
“We are beyond blessed to have Lundon join the Lady Lions family,” Lovato said. “She is what I consider a local being from Greenwood, so she is bringing an entire community fan base with her that we are excited about.”
During her prep career, Williams was a four-time All-State selection and four-time All-State Tournament Team selection. She was twice named First Team All-Arkansas Preps and was the 2011 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Newcomer of the Year and the 2012 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Sophomore of the Year.
Williams led Greenwood to the Class 5A State Championship as a sophomore and the Class 6A State Championship as a senior.
She averaged 14.2 points, 4.6 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game and scored 1,783 points during her prep career. As a senior, Williams averaged 17.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.
“Lundon’s a true winner in every aspect,” Lovato said. “She has a championship mindset.”
As a freshman at Harding, Williams averaged 6.8 points, 2.5 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game while helping lead the Bison to a 23-7 overall record and a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. As a sophomore, Williams averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game while helping lead the Bison to a 17-10 overall record.
“Her grit, competitive drive and never settle attitude is what separates her from other players,” Lovato said. “She will make a huge impact on this program. Her basketball IQ and leadership skills will take this team to another level.”
