A 35-year-old Fort Smith man who attacked another man with a “flashlight that was shaped like a baseball bat” on Tuesday, was arrested for felony aggravated assault charges according to an arrest report from the Fort Smith Police Department.
Douglas Dalton, with a home address on South 22nd St. in Fort Smith, was also arrested on misdemeanor public intoxication charges.
The officer responding to the call said the victim had gone to a residence at 618 South 22 to give a ride to a female when Dalton attacked him inside the house with the flashlight.Dalton fled the scene and the female turned the flashlight over to police and gave them a statement on the assault.
Police made contact with Dalton behind a residence a few house down from th scene of the crime, After being taken to Sparks medical Center for an unrelated pre-existing injury he was taken into custody and transported to the Sebastian County Detention Center.
The victim suffered from a swollen lip from a cut inside of his mouth, loose front teeth and a broken upper dental plate.
Dalton remained in the SCDC Wednesday afternoon under a $3700 legally sufficient bond. He also violated his parole and will be transported to the ADC later this week.
