By virtue of a nominating letter from letter from Fort Smith Police Chief Nathaniel Clark, patrol officer Steve Creek has been selected as the 2017 AACP Sebastian County Police Officer of the Year.
Creek, who received the FSPD Life Saving Award and the Chief’s Award for Excellence for his actions in dealing with a suicidal 21 year-old in February was also the recipient of a Letter of Commendation in April for “routinely stepping up to go above and beyond the call of duty” and his “servant mindset.”
In June, Clark received a call from a citizen commending Creek for stopping by her son’s birthday party and in September another grateful parent wrote a letter to Clark to thank Creek for paying her son a visit after he wrote into the Department to say how proud he is of police officers and firefighters.
The Life saving award is the second Creek has won during his career. In 2013 fresh out of the police academy Officer Creek went to the aid of a choking man in a convenience store and saved his life using techniques he had learned during his training.
