RUSSELLVILLE - A judge has granted a continuance in the trial of a Russellville man accused of killing two Yell County men who he told police were stealing from his family’s salvage yard. 36-year-old Tyler Barefield is free on bond while awaiting the charges of capital murder.
The River Valley Leader reports that Circuit Judge William Pearson ordered the trial to begin on October 23rd, following a flurry of motions that were filed as part of Thursday’s hearing. It was originally scheduled for June 12th.
The RVL report indicates the following:
Barefield’s attorneys advised the judge that there have been “complications with viewing evidence,” particularly the surveillance footage from U-Pull-It Auto Salvage, that was captured the night the alleged murders occurred, as well as other time consuming obstacles the defense has faced as they prepare their case.
Barefield’s appearance was the first since being granted bond on March 20th.
