FORT SMITH - Fort Smith City Director Don Hutchings has announced that he will be a candidate in the upcoming race for Fort Smith Mayor. He currently serves on the city board in an at-large position.

He has been the Senior Pastor at Fort Smith’s Evangel Temple since 1989, shepherding the church through exponential growth which includes the current construction of a new worship center and campus.

“Fort Smith has the perfect form of government for me,” Hutchings told friends on social media Tuesday morning. “I can continue as pastor of Evangel Temple and still serve our
city as mayor. Our city administrator does most of the heavy lifting.”

Hutchings holds a Bible degree from Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. His undergraduate and graduate degrees were earned at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas. He is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God.

In 2006, he was given the “Spirit of the Frontier” award, given to outstanding individuals in Fort Smith who have made a positive difference for good on the life of the community. It is the highest honor the city can give to a citizen.

Hutchings will make an official announcement on November 28th at 2:00 PM in the River Park Events Building.
