FORT SMITH - The Fort Smith City Board of Directors has approved $38,000,000 in bonds that they hope will lure a Missouri company into investing that same amount in a 100,000 square foot industrial facility.

It was revealed Monday night that Silgan Plastics, a leader in small container products, is the company that previously remained confidential.

“For more than 50 years, Silgan Plastics has defined the plastic bottling industry from technical innovation to creative packaging solutions.” the Company says via their website. “No matter what your packaging needs, Silgan can and will handle them. From creation to commercialization, our customized approach to each customer’s requirements is what sets us apart from the rest.”

Based in the Saint Louis suburb of Chesterfield, Silgan makes their products in 19 production plants across the country.

If they move forward with the proposed project, Silgan would bring around 150 jobs to the city of Fort Smith.
