ALMA - The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department says that an accident involving a tractor-trailer rig has shut down parts of westbound Interstate 40 near Alma.

The wreck happened just west of the Interstate 49 interchange, near the 12 mile marker.

According to a dispatcher, one lane of Interstate 40 westbound was reopened around 7:45 AM, and other reports indicate that southbound traffic on Interstate 49 was brought to a standstill as well.

U.S. Highway 64 has been offered as an alternative route while traffic is tied up.
