FORT SMITH - Severe weather that moved through the area Memorial Day evening prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Tornado Warning for much of Sebastian County including some parts of the city of Fort Smith. The warning was issued at 6:14 PM after a northbound severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected near Midland.

The storm left reports of damage near the Rye Hill area of Fort Smith. A separate storm and what observers thought might be a possible tornado heavily damaged a boat storage facility near Tenkiller State Park around the same time.

Sebastian County authorities said a water rescue was conducted near the intersection of Highways 71 and 252 near Huntington.

Tornadic storms moved across Eastern Oklahoma spawning reported tornadoes near West Siloam Springs, and near Miami in Northeast Oklahoma late Monday night.
