Donation To Help Dog Adoption Process

The Sebastian County Humane Society has announced that an anonymous donation to the shelter has covered all adoption fees for the month of January with an approved application for “all black dogs”.

The shelter said the donation will help combat “black dog syndrome”. Black dog syndrome or big black dog syndrome is a disputed phenomenon in which black dogs are passed over for adoption in favor of lighter-colored animals. Animal shelters often use the term “BBD”, or big black dog, to describe the type of larger dark-colored mixed-breed said to be typically passed over by adopters.

The shelter has not specified breeds available for adoption during this program.
