WALDRON - Bentonville based Wal-Mart says they will close at least one area store. The world’s largest retailer said Monday in a release that the location in Waldron will close its doors on July 14th.

“After a careful and thoughtful review process, we have made the difficult decision to close the Walmart store at 1359 W 2nd Street in Waldron, Arkansas. We continually review our store portfolio to make sure we are achieving this long-term strategy. We are grateful to the customers and the community who have given us the privilege of serving them,” Wal-Mart spokesperson Anne Hatfield said in a statement.

This will leave consumers in Scott County to drive to either Greenwood, Booneville, or Mena for their retail needs.

This is the second time Wal-Mart has closed a store along the U.S. 71 corridor. In spring 2016, the retailer closed the smaller Wal-Mart Express store that had opened for a short time in Mansfield. That building was later acquired by the Harp’s grocery chain.
