FORT SMITH- Voters clearly said no in the special election to determine whether a temporary one penny on the dollar sales tax would be levied upon the city.

The special election took place on March 12th, 2019.

Out of a total of 10,408 ballots, 6726 (64.70%) voted against the tax and 3670 (35.30%) voted for the tax.

The proposed tax increase was expected to help generate an estimated $15-16 million dollars in tax revenues which will be used to finish the remainder of the United States Marshals Museum project.

The proposed increase would have taken place from July 1st, 2019 – March 31st, 2020.
