Verna Kathaleen Volk, 67, of Van Buren, passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 in Fort Smith. She was born July 16, 1951 in Van Buren to the late Vernon and Virginia Drewry Kelly. She served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church. She loved to quilt and paint, and was known as the “Popcorn Lady” at JJ Izard Elementary School.
She is survived by her husband, John Volk of the home; a daughter, Leah L. Tyler (Chancy) of Van Buren; two sons, Matthew R. Volk (Angela) of Locke, AR, and Luke A. Volk of Lynnwood, WA; two brothers, Robert Kelly of Mountainburg, and Mark Kelly of Van Buren; and five grandchildren, Haley R. Seratt, Dakota Volk, Ashlee Volk, Bryson A. Hicks, and Addilyn Hicks.
A family-hosted memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Eastern Heights Baptist Church on Kibler Road in Van Buren. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
