“The Transparency in Government Group of Western Arkansas is an organized group of individuals dedicated to ensuring that maximum openness in governmental affairs is practiced by every agency which utilizes taxpayer monies.
To assist the general public to better understand its rights as provided by the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Transparency in Government Group of Western Arkansas will host Mr. Tom Larimer, Arkansas Freedom of Information Act expert, and Executive Director of the Arkansas Press Association, to speak on FOIA rules and law regarding conducting meetings via email and the need, if any, to amend the FOIA. In addition, Mr. Larimer will address recent attempts by the Arkansas General Assembly to drastically weaken FOIA. Mr. Larimer will also have a question and answer session.
In addition, FOIA experts Bill Ray Lewis of the Boone County Transparency Group and Jim Parsons of the Bella Vista Patriots will also be in attendance and provide additional comments on transparency issues in their communities.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, September 21st in the Riverfront Pavilion located at 100 North B Street in Fort Smith. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Admission is free and open to the public.
