TULSA - The National Weather Service has placed the Fort Smith area in an enhanced area for expected severe weather that is expected to move through the area later this evening. Forecasters released the latest information on Friday morning.
“Showers and thunderstorms will develop near or after sunset this evening and move rapidly east across the area. Some of the storms will be severe, with damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes possible,” Meterologists said. “The best chance for severe storms, including tornadoes, will be from southeast Oklahoma into west central Arkansas. The severe weather threat should move east of our area near or shortly after midnight.”
The possibility of the severe weather has already led to some schedule changes across the state, including several of the Arkansas High School football playoff games that were scheduled for tonight.
