The news is breaking today that legendary sports announcer Dick Enberg has passed at the age of 82. The longtime voice of sporting events at every level was found dead in his LaJolla, California home after suffering an apparent heart attack while en route to a local airport.
Enberg had worked into his 80’s, calling games for his hometown San Diego Padres up until last year. However, many fans remember a game he called when Eddie Sutton’s Razorbacks upset #1 North Carolina in February 1984. The game was one of the rare Razorback events played on the floor of the Pine Bluff Convention Center and televised nationally on NBC.
Leading the way for the Tar Heels was none other than Michael Jordan. Arkansas was represented by guys like Joe Kleine and Charles Ballentine - who propelled the Hogs to victory.
When Arkansas won, it was “Pandemonium in Pine Bluff” according to Enberg. Click on the video player above to watch some of the highlights from that great day.
