FORT SMITH - A woman who was already facing a slew of felony charges after her June arrest is back behind bars, this time for being in the possession of a car belonging to longtime Northside educator William DuBois. The 72-year-old former teacher was found dead at his duplex on Greenwood Avenue on July 11th, the same day 21-year-old Taylor Elkins was arrested on accusations of theft by receiving and hindering apprehension or prosecution.
Elkins was officially charged with her crimes in Sebastian County Circuit Court Tuesday morning.
An affidavit filed with the Sebastian County Prosecutor’s Office stated that Elkins was stopped driving the 2014 Ford Focus along Armour Avenue, and said she had been given the vehicle by a while male. She would amend her story during questioning to say she had traded the car for sexual favors.
While she was arrested in connection to the ongoing case, no charge in Dubois’ murder has been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
Elkins was already facing a number of felony offenses in Crawford County, having been charged in June with possession of drug paraphernalia, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, a count of forgery, and a count of criminal impersonation. Records show she was released on a $5,000 bond on June 25th, and that she pleaded not guilty to all of those charges on July 8th, just three days before her most recent arrest.
Elkins is due in court Wednesday morning.
