FORT SMITH - The National Weather Service says that unstable weather could be back in the forecast as early as Monday. Thunderstorms are expected to roll through ahead of incredibly hot weather that will send temperatures into the triple digits later next week.

“Shower and thunderstorm chances return early next week as a weak cold front pushes into the region,” Meteorologist said. “The highest rain chances currently appear in the Monday time frame.”

The weather isn’t expected to get too hostile as the week starts according to the forecast.

“The cold front will move through the area quickly limiting the heavy rainfall threat. Severe storms are not expected at this time though gusty winds with the stronger storms will be possible,” the Weather Service said. “This front will cool down temperatures briefly before hot and dry conditions really set in during the middle of next week as an upper level ridge builds overhead.”
