FORT SMITH - The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office is requesting help from the community identifying two suspects in an alleged short change scam.

“Short change artists”, also known as “quick change artists”, typically pay for small items with large bills and then attempt to confuse a cashier by changing their mind about how much change they want to receive. The scammer will then engage in a quick series of money exchanges. These type of scammers will often target inexperienced cashiers and leave with extra cash once the exchange is over with.

This video was taken from security footage of the incident and shows the two suspects

The man in question allegedly paid for a soft drink with a $50 bill and began requesting other money to be exchanged at the Jenny Lind Express Convenience Store. By the time the exchange was completed, $650 was missing from the cash register, according to the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office.

A female suspect is shown accompanying the male in the pictures and video. Both suspects left the store in a silver Cadillac SUV, traveling in an unknown direction.

The owner of the store reports that similar incident took place at a store she also owns near Moffett, OK.

The Sebastian County Sheriffs Office is asking for the public’s help.   If you have any information or know the identity of the people involved, please call SCSO at 479-783-1051.  Callers do not have to give their name.
