TULSA - The National Weather Service says that most of Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas is under a serious threat of severe weather toward the middle of this week. Forecasters said Monday that most of Green Country can expect to be under the gun by Wednesday, heading into Thursday.
“These storms will then spread into eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas Wednesday evening into Wednesday night.” Meteorologists said in a Hazardous Weather Statement on Monday morning. “Conditions will be favorable for some of these storms to become severe with damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes all possible. The severe threat will continue on Thursday as the cold front moves into eastern Oklahoma. The thunderstorms are expected to end early Friday as the cold front exits to the south and east.”
The dry conditions ahead of the storm are causing another threat before the possibility of rainfall on Tuesday.
“There will be an increased fire danger across northeast Oklahoma this Afternoon as temperatures rise into the 80s and relative humidity values fall to around 35 percent. South winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 35 mph will also aid in increasing the fire weather danger.” the Forecast Office said.
