FORT SMITH - Students in the Fort Smith Public Schools will not have to make up days missed at the end of the year due to both the damage left behind by the May tornado, and subsequent flooding. The Arkansas Department of Education excused the district from the last few days of their school year by granting a waiver this week.

“Thank you to the Arkansas State Board of Education for granting the district’s request for a waiver for May 28, 29, and 30, 2019 due to the historic and unprecedented flooding that has afflicted our community,” the District said.

The May 18th EF-1 tornado left several school districts without power and made the campuses unusable for students for several days.
