FORT SMITH - The Fort Smith School District is one step closer to getting funding for the $120 Million in projects proposed in recent months. The Board of Education voted unanimously Monday night to ask voters for a 5.55 mill increase in an election called for May 22nd.
A number of projects are to be considered in the ask to voters, including ninth grade centers, storm shelters, and gymnasiums. Expansions at Northside and Southside High Schools along with a new career and technology center could be in the cards as well.
Under the increase, a homeowner would pay $111.12 per year toward the schools for every $100,000 in value on their property.
Under the timeline outlined on Monday night, the construction projects would be completed in 2021.
