Sallisaw police capture escaped inmate in get-away vehicle

SALLISAW — Sallisaw police reported early Thursday morning that a man who escaped during a supervised work detail on Wednesday was recaptured in his get-away vehicle shortly after 7 a.m.

Austin McCallie, who was originally arrested on larceny charges on the Wal-Mart parking lot on April 30 now faces additional felony charges including escape,

He is being held in the Sequoyah County Detention Center without bond.

McCallie jumed from a work crew truck Wednesday, made his way to the Sallisaw Wal-Mart and escaped in a 2003 extended bed Chevrolet truck that apparently been on the lot since his April 30 arrest.

Sallisaw police credited the Oklahoma Highway patrol, the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s office and Roland and Muldrow police departments for assisting in the search.
